About JAG Homes Developments

JAG was never about being the biggest builder around.

Alex started the business because he’d spent enough time in the industry to know how he wanted to do things differently. He’d seen jobs rushed, corners cut, and people treating a build like it was just another job to get through.

He wanted to build homes he could actually be proud of. Homes that were well built, properly thought through, and personal to the people who would eventually live in them.

Tony came on board not long after. The two of them have been mates since high school, so when the chance to work together came up, he didn’t hesitate. That was decades ago, and they’re still at it.

The way Alex and Tony work hasn’t changed much in that time.

They care, and they take the work personally.

When either of them walks through a project, they look at it like they’re the ones who’ll be living there. After all these years, both of them can look at a problem, pull it apart and work out what needs to happen. They also pick up on details plenty of people would miss.

If something isn’t right, it doesn’t get brushed aside because that’s easier.

It gets fixed.

Sometimes that means calling the trade back. Sometimes it means getting someone else in.  Sometimes it means Alex and Tony rolling up their sleeves and sorting it out themselves.

If it isn’t good enough for their own homes, it isn’t good enough for a client’s.

That standard hasn’t always made things easy.

There have been plenty of 6am starts and 7pm finishes. Saturdays on site. Sundays when the work just had to get done. A lot of that meant time away from family.

Some projects came with serious financial pressure. Some clients didn’t pay. Some trades did work that had to be repaired or completely redone. There were periods where simply keeping the business moving took everything they had.

The 2008–2009 downturn was one of those times.

Work dried up, so they took on smaller jobs, kept themselves busy where they could and did what was needed to keep the doors open. There wasn’t some clever trick behind getting through it. They just kept working until things started to improve.

JAG’s reputation wasn’t built through advertising.

For most of the company’s history, it came from doing a good job for someone, then having that person pass Alex and Tony’s names on to someone else.

A lot of their work still comes through past clients and word of mouth. People recommend JAG because of how Alex and Tony conduct themselves, how organised they are, how they communicate, how they treat people, and most importantly, how the finished job turns out.

That reputation means a lot to them.

They want to be known as people who turn up, do what they said they’d do, and can be trusted with something as important as somebody’s home.

It’s also why they’ve never tried to win work by simply being the cheapest.

There will almost always be someone willing to quote lower. Alex and Tony have seen what happens when a job gets stripped back too far just to get the price down — poor finishes, rushed work and problems that end up becoming someone else’s responsibility.

They’d rather explain why doing something properly is worth it than promise something unrealistic just to win the job.

Because once the project is finished, the price tends to fade into the background.

The workmanship doesn’t.

Today, JAG is still run with the same hands-on approach, with Alex and Tony making the decisions that shape the business and the work that carries its name.

Construction has changed a lot over the years, but their approach really hasn’t.

Do the job properly. Treat people fairly. Fix things when they’re not right. Build homes they’d be comfortable putting their own families in.

After more than 30 years, that reputation still means a lot to them.

It took a long time to build, and neither of them is interested in risking it by letting the standard slip now.
